Merlin Labs Expands Executive Team, Boosts PIPE Financing to Over $200 Million Ahead of Public Listing
Boston, MA-based Merlin Labs, a leading developer of autonomous flight technology for defense and civil aviation sectors, recently announced an expansion of its executive team and over $200 million in PIPE commitments, anticipating its transition to a publicly traded entity.
By appointing executives at the C-suite level, Merlin Labs aims to fortify its operational capabilities and enhance its market position over the long term. The move precedes the forthcoming Business Combination with Inflection Point Acquisition Corp. IV, which will facilitate Merlin Labs’ public offering on Nasdaq.
The organization’s growth strategy incorporates several key executive appointments, including Leslie Ravestein as Chief Legal Officer and David Lasater as Chief People Officer. Merlin also recently announced the appointment of Ryan Carrithers as Chief Financial Officer. These additions are intended to support a seamless transition to public company status by strengthening legal oversight, corporate governance, and talent management initiatives.
The Merlin Pilot system is currently undergoing Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) evaluation on the Cessna Grand Caravan 208B, marking a pivotal achievement in the company’s pursuit of aviation autonomy. The Merlin Pilot is an integrated hardware and software solution that adapts to different platforms and supports autonomous flight innovation. Its AI-powered software core enables a variety of missions and aircraft types, as demonstrated by hundreds of autonomous flights at the company’s test facilities.
The platform’s development will expand to encompass additional aircraft models, such as the KC-135, C-130J, and Scaled Composites’ Model 437 Vanguard, through collaborations with partners like Northrop Grumman.
Merlin is currently conducting test flights at Quonset State Airport in North Kingstown, R.I. In September, the company announced it will open a new test flight center at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts, with operations scheduled to start in early 2027. The expansion is the next step in ongoing flight testing with its Cessna Caravan aircraft. Testing at Hanscom Field will also advance Merlin Labs collaboration with U.S. Special Operations Command and the Air Force, as it works to integrate the Merlin Pilot system into the C-130J and KC-135 aircraft platforms. Going forward, Merlin Labs expects some dual operations at both Quonset and Hanscom Field hangars.
The upcoming public offering marks a milestone in Merlin Labs’ continued enhancement of technology and organizational capacity. As the company strengthens its market presence and technical leadership, focusing on regulatory compliance and fostering a culture of innovation, Merlin Labs is set to expedite the realization of autonomous flight technology, securing its role as a prominent contributor to the future of aviation innovation.
