Coinvest Capital Backs Starflight Dynamics' Advanced Orbital Infrastructure
Münich-based startup, Starflight Dynamics (SFDY), specializing in the development of foundational technologies for in-space operations, recently announced the close of its pre-seed funding round. The company has raised nearly €2 million, with €750,000 contributed by Lithuanian stateVC fund, Coinvest Capital, and additional funding from angel investors, such as members of the Space & Defense Committee under the European Business Angel Network (EBAN).
Starflight Dynamics’ founder and CEO, Philipp Bauer, remarked, "This pre-seed investment round marks an important turning point for the company. The participation of institutional investors demonstrates strong confidence in advanced manufacturing and space technologies, which represent a compelling and timely opportunity. Since our founding, we have worked to sharpen both the technical foundation and the practical relevance of our technologies - particularly in the dual-use context. This investment enables us to take the next concrete steps: further developing our prototypes, expanding the team, and deepening collaborations with early partners." According to Bauer, the recent funding will support prototype development, enhancing laboratory facilities, team growth, and further collaboration with early partners.
Founded in 2023, Starflight Dynamics aims to implement industrial-scale processes in orbit by utilizing the advantages of microgravity environments. The company's primary focus includes two technology areas.
The first area involves reactive in-space platforms and systems, driven by a proprietary water-based orbital propulsion stack. These platforms are developed for durability and adaptability, supporting modular, mission-specific functions, particularly for robotic, sovereign, and defense-related projects.
The second area focuses on high-throughput bulk crystal growth systems designed for use in space. These enable the large-scale production of advanced semiconductor and quantum materials, taking advantage of zero gravity for potential improvements in next-generation substrate manufacturing.
Viktorija Trimbel, Managing Director of Coinvest Capital, noted that, “We believe that the company's commitment to cutting-edge technology combined with a focus on sustainable, scalable solutions will enable it to tackle some of the most complex challenges in space. This is the kind of forward-thinking company we're looking for, where profound technology meets real-world impact, opening new frontiers in space for the industrial and strategic future of Lithuania and Europe." Rita Sakus, EBAN Board member, commented that investment in Starflight Dynamics supports efforts in propulsion technology, in-space manufacturing, and semiconductor advancements, which have potential applications both in space and terrestrial contexts.
Starflight Dynamics aims to deepen its partnerships in Europe and is considering a subsidiary in Lithuania.
