BQP Secures $5 Million in Oversubscribed Seed Round
On July 17th, Syracuse, NY-based start-up, BQP (formerly known as BosonQ Psi), a provider of quantum-accelerated simulation software for dual-use applications, announced an oversubscribed $5 million seed round to advance its unified digital twin platform, BQPhy®, targeting mission-critical sectors such as aerospace, defense, and semiconductors.
The round was led by Monta Vista Capital, with participation from Empire State Development's New York Ventures, Arc Ventures, Armory Square Ventures, Emergent Ventures, Alumni Ventures, Arka Venture Labs, Transpose Platform, Gainangels, Pranatech Venture Capital, and additional key angel investors. Existing investors, including Paradigm Shift Capital and Griffiss Institute (as part of the Mojave Aerospace Accelerator Fund), also contributed.
This latest round follows a strategic partnership with the Air Force Research Laboratory Aerospace Systems Directorate (AFRL/RQ) via a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, aimed at enhancing modeling and simulation capabilities through quantum computing. It brings BQP’s total funding to date to $6.6 million.
Abhishek Chopra, Founder, CEO, and Chief Scientific Officer at BQP, commented, “This capital enables us to accelerate BQPhy’s development with our design partners and further expand within the A&D and semiconductor markets. Our quantum-inspired solvers are redefining simulation technology, bridging current computational boundaries and enabling a quantum-ready future. The positive response from AFRL/RQ and leading industry design partners validates both the immediate value and significant ROI our platform provides. We are also making notable progress in R&D for quantum-native solvers addressing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Machine Learning (ML), laying the groundwork for next-generation data centers where HPC and quantum computers operate concurrently.”
BQPhy® is engineered for hybrid architectures, including CPUs, GPUs, and quantum computers. Its current iteration leverages quantum-inspired solvers for a tenfold performance boost on existing CPU/GPU platforms. Anticipated quantum-native solvers are expected to deliver up to 1000X improvements on next-generation quantum hardware. In addition to its collaboration with AFRL/RQ, BQP’s design partners encompass leading Aerospace and Defense firms, the largest Tier-I Aerospace manufacturer, the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries, ABB, and other prominent industry players.
BQP’s solvers function independently or as part of an integrated Digital Twin framework within its platform. The company envisions positioning BQPhy® as “the BlackRock of the simulation world”, serving as a backend solution that integrates seamlessly with current simulation workflows, optimized for heterogeneous computing environments. BQP collaborates actively with major quantum ecosystem partners, including Intel, IBM, Classiq, Strangeworks, and NORDTECH Hub members.
Roger Krakoff, Partner at Monta Vista Capital, remarked, “BQP addresses critical challenges in the $22 billion simulation industry, where legacy technologies have struggled to meet innovation demands in sectors like Aerospace & Defense, Semiconductors, and Energy. Their quantum-driven framework is poised to become foundational infrastructure within the simulation ecosystem.”
