ARX Robotics Secures €11 Million to Advance Next-Generation Autonomous Defense Technologies
German defense tech startup, ARX Robotics, which specializes in the production of autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), announced it has secured an additional €11 million through a Series A extension round, led by Speedinvest, with existing investor, HV Capital, participating. The recent financing builds on the company’s €31 million Series A raised earlier this year and a €9 million seed round closed in 2024, bringing ARX Robotics’ total Series A funding to €42 million.
The Munich-based company intends to use this investment to further develop its software-focused platform and expand production of its connected UGVs. These systems are designed for integration and networking with existing military ground vehicles. As interest in modular defense systems increases across Europe, ARX aims to contribute to the region's reindustrialization and strategic autonomy efforts.
The systems developed by ARX reflect both technical innovation and tactical considerations. ARX Robotics was founded in 2021 by Marc Wietfeld, Stefan Roebel, and Maximilian Wied, all veterans of the German Armed Forces. ARX leverages its understanding of military operations to provide scalable robotics solutions that align with the needs of armed forces, integrating practical military experience into the development process.
ARX Robotics' UGVs have been deployed during active operations in Ukraine, supporting military and humanitarian missions. Features such as modularity, autonomous navigation, and durability have been tested in various environments, informing ongoing development of both AI software and hardware components.
One of ARX’s key products is Mithra OS, a proprietary operating system enabling autonomous capabilities for existing ground vehicles. Mithra OS allows armed forces to upgrade legacy vehicles, rather than rely solely on new hardware platforms. The system incorporates features such as autonomous navigation, coordinated operation between multiple units, and real-time decision-making capabilities. Mithra OS is intended to increase operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness for military organizations facing budget constraints. By focusing more on software-defined solutions, ARX seeks to align its platform development with broader industry trends, observed in sectors like automotive and aerospace.
Currently, ARX Robotics’ systems are in use or under evaluation by six European armed forces, including those of Germany, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. ARX Robotics is also engaged in partnerships across Europe, collaborating with companies including Daimler, Renk, Elistair, and Quantum Systems. These collaborations support the integration of ground and aerial unmanned systems, enhancing surveillance and operational coordination. Tests conducted with the German Army indicate that joint drone-UGV operations can improve situational awareness and mission effectiveness. With its modular hardware, field-tested software, and European supply chain, ARX Robotics aims to contribute to the domestic development of Europe’s autonomous defense technologies.
